The museum was fitted out and opened in connection with the village renovation activities in Wehrheim 1982 and 1983. It is located in the restored gate-keeper´s house, in which the watchman of the lower gate and his family once lived. Today the gate-house has two exhibition rooms, which serve as a museum maintained by the History and Local Culture Club of Wehrheim.
Among the intriguing exhibits are a
burial urn and grave goods of the Urnfield Period, estimated to be about 3.000 years old. The finds are discovered in Wehrheim in 1996 by amateur archaeologists. Another interesting exhibit is a copy ot the official document first mentioning the town, dated 1046. With this document, Emperor Heinrich III presents the estate of Wehrheim to Agnes, his consort.
The gatekeeper`s house together with the town gate is the best known landmark of this Taunus community. It is located in the old village centre of Wehrheim, which ist also worth to visit.

Museum Pfaffenwiesbach
![]() Old schoolhouse Pfaffenwiesbach |
The Local History and Village Museum of Pfaffenwiesbach provides a lively and comprehensive picture of the way of life in a small village. In the attic of the Old Schoolhouse, an extensive collection of maps and original furnishings show how children were taught. Furnishings from the living rooms and bedrooms of Pfaffenwiesbach families, as well as a kitchen with stove, dishes, pots and pans, provide a glimpse of village life in days gone by. Numerous tools and pieces of equipment show how people use to work in fields and barns. For example, members of the Local History and Tourism Club have brought together many items related to the dairy industry - from butter churn to centrifuge. Almost all of the exhibits come from homes, workshops or farms in the locality. During the time of the Advent Bazaar, special exhibitions are scheduled.
Did you know ... the famous helicopter builder Arnold Flettner was employed as a teacher in Pfaffenwiesbach before beginning his technical studies ?
